There were 38 Eye of the Tiger e\u2011Kiwanis Club <\/span>mem\u00adbers and guests present on their com\u00adput\u00aders or phones for our meet\u00ading held on the evening of August 20th. Pres\u00adi\u00addent Barb Thomp\u00adson recalled sev\u00ader\u00adal inter\u00adclubs attend\u00aded by our mem\u00adbers, includ\u00ading the Flori\u00adda DCON<\/span>, Cal\u00adNe\u00adva DCON<\/span> and the Cor\u00adtana Kiwa\u00adnis Club of Baton Rouge. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Pres\u00adi\u00addent Barb wel\u00adcomed par\u00adtic\u00adi\u00adpants from coast to coast in the USA<\/span>, Cana\u00adda and around the world. We were pleased to have Paul Heinz, Gov\u00ader\u00adnor Elect of the Texas-Okla\u00adhoma Dis\u00adtrict on our call today along with mem\u00adbers of the Philip\u00adpine Luzon Dis\u00adtrict includ\u00ading Amphy Linn from the Kiwa\u00adnis Club of Manil\u00adla and cur\u00adrent Com\u00admit\u00adtee Chair for Action Club. Thank you to all who were able to attend our meeting.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Pres\u00adi\u00addent Barb Thomp\u00adson was excit\u00aded to be able to induct three new mem\u00adbers this evening. All were wel\u00adcomed with a hearty EOT<\/span> Zoom hand\u00adshake. These new mem\u00adbers include PLG<\/span> Denise Gasti of the CNH<\/span> Dis\u00adtrict, spon\u00adsored by incom\u00ading EOT<\/span> Pres\u00adi\u00addent Bob Larsen, DLG<\/span> LaMis\u00adsTenn, Lau\u00adra Gilliland, spon\u00adsored by our Pres\u00adi\u00addent (Past Inter\u00adna\u00adtion\u00adal Trustee) Barb Thomp\u00adson and PLG<\/span> Jim Janosik of the Ohio Dis\u00adtrict, spon\u00adsored by our Club Sec\u00adre\u00adtary and PG<\/span> of CNH<\/span> Alan Guire.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

All three of our new mem\u00adbers have worked hard to improve mem\u00adber\u00adship in their respec\u00adtive Dis\u00adtricts. We are extreme\u00adly pleased they have cho\u00adsen to join our EOT<\/span> e\u2011Kiwanis club.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Joe Rug\u00adge\u00adrio, the cur\u00adrent Gov\u00ader\u00adnor of the Dis\u00adtrict of New York shared a few min\u00adutes to talk about his life adven\u00adture. Joe was born in Brook\u00adlyn. His father was a long serv\u00ading Kiwan\u00adian who even\u00adtu\u00adal\u00adly per\u00adsuad\u00aded his son to join Kiwa\u00adnis 15 years ago. After serv\u00ading as his club Pres\u00adi\u00addent, he sought to con\u00adtin\u00adue to serve as LG<\/span> and even\u00adtu\u00adal\u00adly to his posi\u00adtion of Governor. <\/span><\/p>\n

Joe is a proud father of three and grand\u00adfa\u00adther to five. He was left a wid\u00adow sev\u00ader\u00adal years ago and con\u00adsid\u00aders him\u00adself dou\u00adbly blessed to have found a new life part\u00adner in Deb\u00adbie Roth. <\/span>A proud retired team\u00adster, Joe shared the impres\u00adsion it had on him to have worked on so many New York struc\u00adtures. Most impres\u00adsive was the work he did at the Twin Tow\u00aders site post 911. <\/span><\/p>\n

Our sec\u00adond speak\u00ader was Gov\u00ader\u00adnor Kendra Skid\u00admore, Gov\u00ader\u00adnor of the Ken\u00adtucky-Ten\u00adnessee Dis\u00adtrict. She was east\u00adern Ken\u00adtucky born and is pas\u00adsion\u00adate about help\u00ading those in need. Her step\u00adfa\u00adther was a Kiwan\u00adian and final\u00adly <\/span>per\u00adsuad\u00aded her to join Kiwa\u00adnis, for which we are very grateful.<\/span><\/p>\n

A den\u00adtal hygenist pro\u00adfes\u00adsion\u00adal\u00adly, she is find\u00ading her time to be extra\u00ador\u00addi\u00adnar\u00adi\u00adly busy dur\u00ading Covid. For two year, she was on sabat\u00adi\u00adcal with Kiwa\u00adnis as an amaz\u00ading club open\u00ader. She is not afraid of a chal\u00adlenge, a trail blaz\u00ader and goal set\u00adter. She is just who we need to con\u00adtin\u00adue our mem\u00adber\u00adship growth mission. <\/span><\/p>\n

Our final speak\u00ader was Steven West\u00adphal, Gov\u00ader\u00adnor of the Utah-Ida\u00adho Dis\u00adtrict. He is an elec\u00adtri\u00adcian and along with his sons, they run the fam\u00adi\u00adly busi\u00adness. Gov\u00ader\u00adnor Steve is a retired army vet\u00ader\u00adan hav\u00ading served in Vietnam.<\/span><\/p>\n

Steve exem\u00adpli\u00adfies what it means to have per\u00adse\u00adver\u00adance and deter\u00admi\u00adna\u00adtion. <\/span>Two years ago, he was diag\u00adnosed with skin can\u00adcer. How\u00adev\u00ader, in his case, it was tru\u00adly unique in that it was under his tongue. His ensu\u00ading surgery includ\u00aded a pros\u00adthet\u00adic jaw and loss of his tongue. He was told he would nev\u00ader speak <\/span>that did not stop Steve. We are thrilled that in June he was told there was no trace of cancer. <\/span><\/p>\n

Sep\u00adtem\u00adber is fast approach\u00ading as are many EOT<\/span> mem\u00adber birth\u00addays. Upcom\u00ading birth\u00addays include a run of them at the begin\u00adning of the month. Sep\u00adtem\u00adber 5 is Tim Shep\u00adpard, 6 is Mary Jo Brubak\u00ader, 7 is Dewey Smith, 8 is Mar\u00adi\u00adan Tay\u00adlor and Don Koch with Richard Lim round\u00ading it out on the 9th. Mary-Lynn Des\u00adjar\u00adlais is cel\u00ade\u00adbrat\u00aded on the 16th, Jim Doo\u00adley on the 17th and Car\u00adson Schreiber on the 22nd. Wish you a hap\u00adpy, healthy year ahead!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
